Wall Hung Basin

Wall hung basins, as the name implies, are hung directly on the wall by means of a special bracket. They can also be used in conjunction with a semi-pedestal, especially on larger basins. The semi-pedestal can be used to help support the basin and  has the added advantage of covering the basin waste pipe and usually the supply pipes too.

When considering products for use in a small bathroom design a wall hung basin and wall hung toilet can help to make the room feel larger than it would with conventional floor-mounted units (the theory being that as they do not touch the floor, the floor looks bigger; and if the floor looks bigger the room looks bigger).

Small cloakroom basins are nearly always wall hung but they are can also be used in an en-suite bathroom if space is limited.

When installing a wall hung basin it is important to ensure that the wall on which it is mounted is structurally sound, as it will take all of the load.

Positioning this type of hand basin is also important as the waste pipe needs to exit through the wall directly behind the basin. To avoid the supply pipes being visible they should feed the basin from behind the wall.
