Roll Top Bath Designs

Where they were once viewed as almost as an antique, roll top baths are now seen as leading the way in bathroom design. indeed, the name has now become almost a generic term for any freestanding bath (even those that do not have a roll top).

Taking the original roll top bath as the starting point designers have really gone to town in changing the image into the conversation-piece baths seen in today's showrooms. Demand for roll top baths continued to increase but this coincided with an increase in demand for modern, minimalist design bathrooms so manufacturers looked at ways of incorporating the basic bath shell into a more modern setting, which resulted in roll top baths with cradles, plinths, and chrome pipe framework - all variations on the initial bath. The design variations include:

Both the standard and flat top baths are usualy made available with a choice either modern plain legs or traditional claw foot legs. Sizes can vary depending on the manufacturer and the model but most baths of this nature tend to be quite deep and therfore hold a lot of water - so make sure your heating system is up to the job of filling it and that your floor can take the weight.

Slipper and double ended slipper baths usually come supplied with traditional feet or legs as this bath does not lend itself so well to a more modern finish as the shape itself looks old fashioned (which is fine for period settings).

If you are really looking to make an impact with your bathroom design then a roll top bath with a cradle or plinth will certainly help your cause. These baths are not usually cheap but they do look stunning in the right setting.
