Bathroom Cladding v Tiles
Tiles are still the mainstay of bathroom wall decoration but other products are rapidly catching up. One of the biggest influences on this shift is people's requirement for a maintenance-free alternative. Tiles look very smart when freshly installed but the grout that separates each tile is a real weak point. Badly specified or applied grout can prove a disaster as water can get through behind the tiles and wreak havoc. Even when applied properly grout's powdered origins mean that small fissures and pockets can trap moisture which can then lead to mould taking root.
Bathroom cladding uses no grout so mould has an impossible task in trying to establish itself. There are many pros and cons with cladding but the fact that it is now available in tile-effect designs means that even the aesthetic barriers are disappearing.
